The actual BMP-2 armored vehicle was developed in the 1970s for the Soviet troops and their allies. The vehicle was equipped with a 30 mm cannon, machine gun and anti-tank guided missiles, as well as the ability to transport ten soldiers. Production began in the 1980s and the BMP-2 was widely used in various conflicts around the world, including the Afghanistan War and the First and Second Gulf Wars. The BMP-2 was also used in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) as part of the NVA.
