Title description:
"Rebel or" begins with the story of American airmen veteran second World War. In the preface captures the story, which experienced the "Slovak National Uprising in 1944 is happening at a time when I am, 19-year-old member of the American air crew forces become "uninvited guests" Slovaks and their partisans, both for engine failure number two of our B-24 bombers during the fulfillment of the mission of bombing the town of Hodonin in Czechoslovakia. Our plane crashed Nov. 20, 1944, and the area where we were hiding from the Germans, Russian troops liberated on April 8, 1945. I recently transferred this my story in book form. Allow me to briefly mention at least the most important moments of my stay between Slovaks and guerrillas.
After jumping from the plane I fell to the parachute and I wondered if it will affect the enemy or allied territory. Now closer to the ground, I noticed a group of people ran towards me. As soon as I hit the ground, I began to embrace me. Can you imagine what it was a relief for me. Until now it was clear that I got into the hands of friends. Then there was my "dovzdelávanie" of stiffness and selflessness Slovaks and guerrillas. Clothing, food, shelter, personal needs and very important constant vigilance and the need for frequent replacements shelters depending on the movement of German troops - all provide my hosts. All these people risked their life for my safety.
At the same time as I assisted to Jaroslav ŠVÁCHA in literary translation aspect of this book presented itself to me much opportunity to expand their knowledge of Slovak National Uprising, its preparation, scale and complexity of its end. Until now were my knowledge in this area is incomplete and rather touching tasks and activities of the US Air Force and their cooperation with the partisans in transporting American airmen from Slovakia.
Stanislav John and Jaroslav ŠVÁCHA include recognition for their perseverance in gathering and preparing materials for this publication. Just as we Americans say, "These two have done all this painstaking work." The amount of historical, period photographs, of a publication, that is what this book brings much as what is written in it.
