The ZT 320 series was intended to be an upgrade of the existing ZT 300 series, and therefore many components of the ZT 300 still not obsolete at the time, such as the axles, frame and steering system, were carried over to the ZT 320 series. The main parts to be upgraded were among others three-point suspension, drive train, driver's cabin and, according to current regulations, the brake system. Compared to the ZT 300 series, the ZT 320 has been designed to be much more versatile. Thanks to an upgraded braking system, it can tow trailers weighing up to 30,000 kg, and its improved gearbox allows for a very low speed of just 1.4 km/h. Production was simplified by reducing the number of models to two: the ZT 320 is a rear-wheel-drive only model, while the ZT 323 also has front-wheel drive. Special models were not part of the ZT 320 series.
