Title Description
When thinking about calling the book, I kept thinking of all those soldiers who took part in the fighting in southwestern Slovakia. There were many of them, they were soldiers of the armed forces of six states, and the number of nationalities to which they belonged or reported is difficult to quantify ... In this notion, the name of the city that has already become synonymous with the mixing of peoples in the Biblical Old Testament automatically comes to man. and languages, Babylon. And this was Babylon's armies.

On January 26, the news of Magnet Press Slovakia, the first volume of the book Babylon armies, is published. Author Pavol Šteiner offers readers a comprehensive and yet missing view of the course of the fighting in the sector of the Soviet 7th Guards Army in southwestern Slovakia from December 1944 to January 1945. Mention of the fighting in this area has only appeared marginally in the past, within the larger synthetic and encyclopedic works . Despite all this, the author tried to compile the most plastic and complex picture of the situation in the region on the lower rivers of Ipľa, Hron, Nitra and Váh in the given period, as the soldiers of all participating armies and the domestic population survived. The second episode will be chronologically continued from February to April 1945, respectively by Operation Südwind and the first phase of the Bratislava-Brno operation.

The use of unpublished sources from the Central Archive of the Russian Federation and their comparison with other sources of information made it possible to process an interesting look at the "Babylon of the armies" in the explored territory at the turn of 1944 and 1945. The first part of the publication deals with the fighting in December 1944 and January 1945. The work will be chronologically continued with Operation Südwind, the first phase of the Bratislava-Brno operation, will take note of the attitudes of the civilian population, war crimes, as well as the sights that remind us of the watched events. It remains to be believed that the reader will gain enough knowledge to enable him to better know the region where he lives, the bite of war and the nonsense of her victims ...
