Product description

High-quality metal model of McDonnell Douglas MD11F airliner UPS in detailed design. The package includes a chassis.

In the 1980s, McDonnell Douglas CO. decided to create a new aircraft model that would follow on from the successful DC-10. If McDonnell Douglas had not created a new successful model, it would have gone bankrupt. The MD-11 was finally introduced in 1986 in its familiar form, it basically differed from the DC-10 only by small cosmetic modifications, such as specific ailerons on the ends of the wings. The most interesting element was the placement of an even lower, smaller wing on the wing. It is 18 feet longer than the DC-10, can hold 320 passengers, 500,000 pounds of cargo, and has a range of 6,800 nm (12,593 km).

Versions with a longer range, designated ER, cargo version and Combi version, were also prepared for production. The first flight was planned for 1989, but problems with the material pushed it back 9 months. The prototype with the designation N111MD left the ground for the first time on January 10, 1990. The flight lasted 2.56 hours and the orders climbed to 300 pieces.

MD-11F: (53 produced) Is an expensive version of the MD-11. It was the longest produced MD-11 variation (1988–2000) and is still used today by UPS, FedEx Express, Lufthansa Cargo.
