In the 1980s, Peugeot caused an explosion of the GTI phenomenon with the launch of the sporty version of the 205. With a strong personality and excellent performance, the 205 GTI was the car that young people dreamed of, and also ideal for racing. With increasing power (105, 115 and then 130 hp), the 205 GTI saw its maximum development in the 1.9 version, launched in September 1986, with 15' wheels and rear disc brakes. Restyling was carried out in mid-1987 (dashboard), then in mid-1990 (redesigned lights and ABS as an option). Special versions were also produced, such as the Griffe, based on the GTI 1.9, which now fetches rocket prices. Loud and bright with the 1.6 engine or full of torque and fast with the 1.9 engine, the 205 GTI is now a classic among hot-hatchbacks.
