Porsche has revealed that it once planned to launch a lightweight speedster version of its 981 Boxster sports car, only to abandon the project at the last minute due to its "feasibility" as a production car.
Dubbed the Boxster 981 Bergspyder, the unique model was inspired by the German automaker's 909 racing car from the late 1960s and carried the competition model's iconic white and green color scheme.
The Boxster 981 Bergspyder was commissioned by the Porsche Board of Directors in 2015, with the vehicle being assembled by the engineering team at the Weissach plant in Germany. It would be an ultralight version of the Boxster with space for only one passenger and a piece of glass for the windshield.
