Although the airline's roots date back to 1956, when the North Vietnamese government established an aviation regiment operating as the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, the airline as we know it today was officially established as a civilian and commercial enterprise on May 27, 1995. Over the past three decades, the airline has grown significantly and currently operates one of the youngest fleets in Asia with nearly 100 aircraft and more than 300 daily flights throughout Asia, as well as to distant destinations in Europe and North America. To commemorate this anniversary, the airline has painted this Boeing 787 Dreamliner with the iconic Lac bird. The mythical bird is found on bronze drums created by the Dong Son culture, a Bronze Age culture in Southeast Asia that dates back to 1000 BC.
