With the delivery of its first 787-9 in September 2014, United was the first North American operator of the stretched variant of Boeing’s Dreamliner. The 26 ordered aircraft are to be used mainly on long-distance routes. The first of such took place last October from Los Angeles to Melbourne, the longest flight to date operated by a 787 Dreamliner.
