Product description
A high-quality, precision-crafted model of the South African Airways Douglas DC-7B with saddle fuel tanks – “Dromedaris”.
In 1956, with the arrival of ZS-DKD, South African Airways became the first non-American airline to operate the Douglas DC-7, replacing the Lockheed Constellations on European routes. SAA’s first DC-7B was for flights across the Indian Ocean to Perth. To facilitate the distance covered with fewer refueling stops, eventually reducing the number of stops at Mauritius and the Cocos Islands to two, the airline added “saddle” fuel tanks to each of the four engines, with the familiar logo of the jumping antelope. They could additionally hold up to 220 gallons (32 liters) of fuel and helped to replenish the tanks of the standard DC-7 from 7,400 to approximately 9,000 kilometers. there is also only one display stand.
