All pilots of the German Air Force are trained on the Eurofighter at Tactical Air Force Squadron 73 "Steinhoff" in Laage near Rostock. 30 + 01 is the first two-seater that is still in operation and has been delivered to the German armed forces. The squadron's namesake, Johannes "Macky" Steinhoff, was a flying ace in World War II and a central figure in the reorganization of the Air Force in the Cold War.
