F-16B "Chase Plane" 78-0099 is a detailed model of one of the most interesting aircraft used by the US Air Force for testing and development purposes. The two-seat F-16B Fighting Falcon with the serial number 78-0099 served with the 6510th Test Wing at Edwards Air Force Base in 1990, where it participated in the testing of new aircraft and aircraft systems.
The distinctive white and red color scheme was not chosen by chance. The aircraft, known as the "Chase Plane", accompanied the test aircraft during flight tests, monitored their behavior in the air and recorded any technical problems. Thanks to their striking camouflage, they were easily identifiable during demanding test missions.
During the Cold War and in the 1980s and 1990s, Edwards Air Force Base was one of the most important centers of military aviation development in the world. It was here that aircraft such as the F-15, F-16, B-2 Spirit and later the F-22 Raptor were tested. Chase Planes played a key role in the safety of test flights and provided pilots and engineers with valuable data directly during the flight.
