Product description

High-quality metal model of the Ford Escort RS 1800 from 1976, driven by R. Clark in the RAC Lombard rally race.

Cosworth, with whom Ford worked in Formula 1, participated in its development. It was produced between 1992 and 1996 in a very limited number of only 7,145 vehicles. It was the successor to the Sierra RS Cosworth model and basically took over all the mechanical parts. The Sierra was not very successful in rallying, so Ford decided to build the entire chassis and aggregates of the Sierra into the lighter body of the Escort, which also had a shorter wheelbase. It was recognizable thanks to its rear two-stage spoiler called "whale tail", widened fenders and cooling vents in the hood.

It was powered by a Cosworth YBT, high-revving, twin-overhead, turbocharged Garrett 2-liter engine. It had an output of 167 kW/227 hp in standard equipment. The engine had forged Mahle pistons, sodium-filled valves, and a hardened crankshaft and connecting rods. Three versions were distinguished according to the color of the cylinder head. Red was for high-octane gasoline, green for unleaded gasoline, and blue for unleaded with a catalyst. The assembly of the body was the responsibility of the Karmann company, which modified the body for a more voluminous engine and all-wheel drive parts. Recaro sports seats with better lateral guidance were installed in the interior.
