From 1984 until reunification in 1990, the Department for Technical Inspection - Air Traffic Control used this ex-Interflug IL-18 as a measuring aircraft for calibrating air traffic control and navigation instruments at airports. Because of its paint, the machine quickly got the nickname "Gray Mouse", such a soft toy is said to have hung in the cockpit most of the time.
