The aircraft was flown by Lt Col Robert Titus and 1st Lt Milan Zimer during the Vietnam War — one of the most intense aerial conflicts of the 20th century. The F-4 Phantom II remains an enduring icon of the Cold War era and one of the most significant combat aircraft in US Air Force history.
