After the success of the first generation RS Turbo (Mk III) in 1985, Ford originally planned to end production.
However, the huge demand for a fast version of the Escort forced Ford to produce a second series - already based on the modernized Mk IV Escort.
So: the RS Turbo S2 was created "at the request of the public" - not as a regular marketing project.
