Goertze's first work...

When the name Albrecht Gróf von Goertz is mentioned, most car enthusiasts immediately imagine the beautiful BMW 507, with which he created a milestone in global vehicle production. However, by then this nobleman had gone through several professional stations. He designed his first vehicle as early as 1939.

At that time, he had his ideas realized in original size in Francis Griffen's small workshop in Glendale, California. The elaborate sheet metal body was placed on a Mercury chassis. At that time, the 25-year-old Albrecht Gróf von Goertz created a two-door car with distinctive fenders, integrating the front of the Mercury and using the rear fenders of the Lincoln. The two headlights on the front fenders also come from Mercury. He affectionately named his creation “Paragon”.

The lines were characterized primarily by strong curves, both on the fenders and on the semicircular, elongated roof.
Albrecht Count von Goertz never commented on his unique work – not even later – so it is not certain what goal he wanted to achieve with this design. The idea that he wanted to put his Paragon into production, however, was not far-fetched. It was not for nothing that he was committed to exhibiting his car at the San Francisco World’s Fair in 1939. However, the entry of the United States into World War II prevented further planning, as he had to enter military service as a naturalized US citizen.
