Product description

High-quality metal model of military aircraft Thunderbolt A10A II "Mi-8 Killer", 21 FS, 507th ACW, Shawn AFB, Dec 199. The model is detailed and precisely processed according to the real machine that flew at the end of the 20th century. The package of the model includes a chassis, an antenna and a stand.

The A-10 Thunderbolt II ("Thunderbolt" II) is a single-seat twin-engine combat aircraft that was developed by the American company Fairchild Republic in the first half of the 1970s. The A-10 is a highly maneuverable low-wing aircraft designed to destroy tanks, armored vehicles and other ground targets. It is the first US Air Force aircraft designed exclusively for direct support of ground troops. The official name "Thunderbolt" comes from the name of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft, which was extremely successful in aerial support of infantry during World War II. However, the A-10 is better known in the world under the nickname "Warthog" or simply "Hog".

Modernization programs should ensure that the A-10 aircraft will be part of the US Air Force until 2022. After that, they should be replaced by F-35 stealth fighters, which will have a much better chance of surviving in an environment with advanced air defenses. However, the US Air Force is also considering a low-cost alternative to the A-10 in the form of the Scorpion aircraft from Textron AirLand or the AT-6 from Beechcraft.
