The fourth generation Mazda MX-5 was introduced in 2014 and has been in production since 2015. The updated model was introduced in 2019 and is visually identical to the pre-update model; the engine was upgraded to 135 kW (181 hp) and a dual-mass flywheel was introduced to the drivetrain in the manual transmission. The ND generation introduced the Retractable Fastback (RF) variant, which featured a hardtop and braces that gave the silhouette a more coupe-like appearance than a hardtop convertible. The fourth-generation MX-5 has won several awards, such as the 2015-2016 Japan Car of the Year Award, the 2016 World Car of the Year, the 2016-2019 Top 10 Cars and Drivers list, and the Red Dot Best of the Best Award for Product design 2017. The car is also the basis for Fiat 124 Spider and Abarth 124 Spider.
